March 2008: Focus Collaborative Project Awarded LEED
Gold Certificate. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)
awarded the City of Charlottesville’s Downtown Transit
Station in Charlottesville, Virginia, with a Leadership in
Energy and Environmental Design for New Construction (LEED-NC®)
certification at the Gold level. Focus developed the
architectural specifications for the project designed y
Wallace Roberts & Todd, LLC.
January 2008: Steve Preis, Focus Collaborative senior
specifier, was promoted to office manager and is
operating a new Pittsburgh, PA area office for the company.
Steve is responsible for developing new architectural and
engineering clients in the Pittsburgh area, building a local
staff, and supporting the other
Focus offices with his
mechanical engineering expertise.
December 2007: Lloyd I. Bushay, PE, CSI joined Focus
Collaborative as a senior
specifier. Lloyd is an
electrical engineer with over 40 years experience in
building
systems as a consulting engineer and power
generation and transmission systems
as an engineer with
Atlantic Electric, the power utility for southern New
Jersey.
October 2007: AIA Delaware awarded Focus Collaborative
an Honor Award in
recognition of design excellence for
Blue Ball Dairy Barn. Focus Collaborative provided
the
architectural specifications for this adaptive reuse project
designed by Wallace
Roberts & Todd, LLC and John Milner
Associates.
October 2007: Steve Preis, PE, CSI, CCS, CCCA, SCIP,
Focus Collaborative
senior specifier, successfully passed
the Certified Construction Contract
Administrator (CCCA)
exam administered by The Construction Specifications
Institute
(CSI). Successful completion of this exam
demonstrates understanding of
pre-construction and
construction phase activities, construction observation
procedures,
and
the project closeout process. Steve is a member of the
Construction Specifications
Institute and Specifications Consultants in Independent
Practice.
August 2007: Client Names Focus Collaborative as
Valuable Resource. Wallace
Roberts & Todd LLC, a
prominent Philadelphia, Pennsylvania planning and design
firm
known for designing with nature, surveyed its staff to
determine what procedures and
resources were considered most
valuable to the company. Focus Collaborative was
named as
one of the primary sources of technical information outside WRT. The other
major source was the internet.
August 2007: David Stutzman, RA, CSI, CCS, SCIP, Focus
Collaborative Principal,
was selected by the
Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) as a member of
the
Preliminary Project Description Task Team. This task
team will review CSI Project
Resource Manual and UniFormat and develop recommendations
for writing preliminary
project descriptions based on assemblies and systems rather
than products. This will
allow designers to describe projects for pricing and
evaluation before final design
solutions are selected. Dave has served on other CSI
Institute committees and chaired
the task team that produced the current UniFormat document.
June 2007: The Preservation Alliance for Greater
Philadelphia awarded the 2007
Grand Jury Project Award
to the design team for Blue Ball Dairy Barn, an adaptive
reuse of an historic agricultural building for public use.
Focus Collaborative provided the
architectural
specifications for the project architects Wallace Roberts &
Todd, LLC and
John Milner Associates.
June 2007: Focus Collaborative announced Charles Chief
Boyd of Thalden Boyd
Emery Architects in Tulsa, Oklahoma
as the winner of the free specifications service.
The winner
visited the Focus Collaborative booth at the Construction
Specifications
Institute convention in Baltimore, MD. This
was the first national convention at which
Focus exhibited
to promote our services.
June 2007: Focus Collaborative staff attended the
national Construction
Specifications Institute educational
convention and exposition in Baltimore, MD.
The
convention allowed the Focus staff to learn about new
construction products
and construction techniques. It also
provided an opportunity to explore the future of
specifications and construction documents through
presentations on
Building Information
Modeling (BIM).
June 2007: Todd Maxey, CSI, CDT, SCIP, LEED AP, Focus
Collaborative specifier,
successfully passed the Construction Document Technologist
(CDT) exam given by
The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI). Completing
this exam demonstrates
understanding of the various construction documents and the
roll of parties in a
construction project. The CDT exam is the first step in
becoming a Certified
Construction Specifier. Todd is a member of the Construction
Specifications Institute
and Specifications Consultants in Independent Practice and
is a US Green Building
Council LEED Accredited Professional
May

successfully passed the Certified
Construction Specifier (CCS) exam given by The
Construction
Specifications Institute (CSI). Completing this exam
demonstrates
knowledge of specifications writing principals and
understanding of CSI specifications
formats. Steve is a
member of the Construction Specifications Institute and
Specifications Consultants in Independent Practice.
May 2007: Joseph Minarik, CSI, CDT, SCIP, Focus
Collaborative specifier,
successfully passed the
Construction Document Technologist (CDT) exam given by
The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI). Completing
this exam demonstrates
understanding of the various
construction documents and the roll of parties in a
