Focus Collaborative is lead by our two founding principals: David Stutzman and James Maxey.

David Stutzman, RA, CSI, CCS, SCIP
A registered architect in Pennsylvania and New Jersey with more than 35 years experience in specifications, construction documents, standards and practices, construction materials and methods, and field observation for engineering and architectural projects.

Specialty areas include procurement and construction specifications; quality assurance reviews, project code review; and facility programming to define project needs before beginning design.

James Maxey, CSI, CCS, SCIP
A career specifier with more than 40 years experience in specification development and
writing, design criteria development, construction documents, standards and practices,
construction materials and methods, and quality assurance.

Specialty areas include procurement and construction specifications; developing
multiple owner's design criteria guides, manufacturers' product specifications, and setting up office standards.

Professional Staff

Our professional staff members are specifiers with diverse backgrounds as architects,
engineers, building owners, code officials, general contractors, roofers, and horizontal
directional drillers. We draw upon individual experiences and pool the results to ensure
high quality results.

Focus Collaborative specifiers are members of the Construction Specification
 Institute (CSI) and Specification Consultants in Independent Practice (SCIP). Focus'
principals have been certified by CSI as Construction Specifiers since the program's
inception in 1979. Other staff members are recognized as Certified Construction
Specifiers (CCS) and Construction Documents Technologists (CDT) by CSI
examinations.

Focus Collaborative staff helps lead the industry. We routinely contribute to the
Construction Specifications Institute's standards that govern production of specifications
and project manuals. We attend CSI workshops, committees, and other meetings to
offer comments on the standards revisions and development. We participate as CSI
Chapter and Institute leaders.
